Marie Cat cake!

Marie Cat cake
An order I received for a cat lover.
At first, I was still sketching cat cartoons, googling for cat images which I could "draw/decorate" on a cake. Time went by & I couldn't seem to draw the perfect cat which would look pretty on a cake. and, AHA! I remembered that I purchased Marie cookie cutters awhile back and decided to use them to do fondant cut-outs. Painted the fondant with some food coloring and this was how it turned out(:

It's a 8" carrot cake sandwiched in between creamy cream cheese frosting before being covered & decorated with BatterBurp's buttercream..

As this cake was ordered for a girl, I chose pink and white pastel colors as pastel colors never fail to make a cake look sweet(:

**Notice that the marie cat has 2 different expressions?

Next up? will be trying various cake designs using the Hello Kitty cookie cutters & molds I bought during my short getaway in HK!(:(: Till then~

Pink ribbon bow cake

Guess what flavor?
A few weeks ago, I received an order for me to replicate a 21st birthday cake.. When I saw the picture, I got really excited about it as I have been waiting for the chance to do a fondant bow. I loved the color theme of the cake and started planning a week before the order was due.. This cake alone took me approx. 3 days to complete..

Bought the materials needed for the cake stand as well as some plastic dowels for the standing hearts..before getting down to business..

Gum paste was used for the ribbon, letterings and the pink hearts. Spent a few hours on the big pink bow itself and it seemed to take eons for it to fully dry up and harden.. In the end, I kept the "standing hearts" as well as the big bow in an air con room for 2 nights so that they could be done in time..
So, always prepare your fondant decorations a few days before as the weather in Singapore is so unpredictable!

Baked the cakes and cupcakes on the 2nd day..
Started covering them over with fondant and decorating on the 3rd day..
Was really lucky that my mum was there to help me and I managed to get everything done by midnight(:
The bow cake is a 3 layered red velvet cake sandwiched in between 2 layers of cream cheese frosting.. The cupcakes are chocolate and topped off with chocolate ganache..
I love the simple checkered heart design of the cupcakes(: simple yet elegant..

Angry birds, angry pig?

Angry Pig Red velvet cake!

Beneath all the buttercream and cream cheese frosting lies 2 layers of BatterBurps popular red velvet cake sandwiched together. This is an 9 inch cake which was sandwiched with a light cream cheese frosting before being decorated with buttercream..

I've always loved drawing, and when I received this order, I was really excited to draw an angry pig + decorating it on a cake.. Drew this free hand and I had lots of fun decorating it & I really hope to be able to receive more orders like these in the future(: There's a similar cake which I decorated with a elmo face and can be seen from here..

Filled in the rest of the angry pig face by using a star tip... Although it was a little time consuming, it sure made the whole picture a lot neater, don't you think?

BatterBurps has finally came up with a "to-die-for" buttercream frosting after much trial & error!

It's smooth, creamy, not too sweet, light & airy! What's more, it's good to for decorations too!
Will be coming up with new cupcake/cake flavors to be paired along with this buttercream soon..
Hope you all enjoyed this short little post(: Till then~~

Red velvet cupcakes..

Red velvet hearts..
Recently, many people have been requesting me to sprinkle a few mini red hearts over my cupcakes instead of a single big heart. However, as I only had these red hearts at home at time, this was what I did! Am thinking of a new way to decorate my red velvet cupcakes to make the design more unique, I'll probably change the piped design as the usual twirls seem to be getting too common:/

Here's an order which I received for 30 cupcakes, 6 of which were cookies n cream which had a chocolate cake base.
Really sorry for the lack of updates in this space. Had been catching up with never ending assignments as well as exams. But fret not, the baker is always in action! (: I'm always indulging in baking whenever I'm feeling too stressed out, happy, or when I cant seem to get to sleep. I'm also currently experimenting on new cupcake/cake flavors as well as desserts, so do continue to check out this space (:

Strawberry mirror cake!

Layered with strawberry mousse..
This cake is similar to the strawberry hearts cake which many have attempted before. Strawberry Hearts is usually has a cream cheese/marshmallow base, layered with strawberries cut into the shape of hearts and then covered with a thin red jello layer.. Depending on recipes, some are non-bake, some are baked.

This little one over here is called a strawberry mirror cake and is slightly more complicated. Is is made of fresh strawberry mousse with 2 sponge layers.. A total of 2 boxes of fresh korean strawberries were used. Many steps were involved in this cake;

-baking the sponge cake
-extracting the juice out of the strawberries
-Making the custard & incorporating it into the mousse
-Cooking the jelly layer made from the juice extracted earlier
-assembling

and tadah! My, was it time consuming. BUT, it was definitely worth it. Nothing beats fresh strawberries right? esp, the jelly layer on top:) Nothing artificial was used, yumm!

Not a bake post but...

Beef Alert!

Ever since I started watching MasterChef, I've been cooking pretty much. I love the way the contestants cook, simple yet nice. So, the other day while having lunch with mummy at coffee club, we found the best beef salad ever. The salad was plated up with slices of beef at the side and then topped with a fruit balsamic compote. It was really appetizing and I've been thinking of it ever since(;

As you can see, this is my interpretation of the beef salad. Attempt at plating up! The salad is composed of buttercup lettuce, wild rockets, asparagus and baby carrots with a balsamic salad dressing. Then, surrounded by pieces of beef topped with worcestershire black pepper sauce. I wanted to cook up a black pepper sauce initially but I had no chicken stock on hand :(

Then, comes the mash potatoes! This can be said to be the most awesome mash potatoes, everyone loved them. Got the recipe from masterchef australia where a celebrity chef actually taught the contestants the methods/ingredients into cooking a good mash potato. Unlike other methods, the potatoes aren't being mashed manually and actually, have to go through a sieve which eventually yields a smoother, fluffier mash.

Here is the beef steak for the boyf which he managed to cook it medium well-well done. I had a hard time controlling the heat and time needed to pan fry the beef and ended cooking mine to well done:/

Finally, a cupcake cake..

Giant Cupcake!
My cousins have always been crazy over my cupcakes.. So, this time, when it was Joel's birthday, he requested for a giant cupcake cake. When I first heard about it, I was really excited as I have always been eyeing the wilton cupcake pan and also admiring other cupcake cake designs..

However, I decided not to get the pan in the end as it was rather pricey and my baking cupboard at home is already maxed out.. So, I decided to carve the cake out of 3 round cakes, 1 6.5", 2X 8" round cakes.. 3 cakes stacked up together, layered with choc cream cheese frosting = 6 layers of chocolate cake goodness.. It really was a v rich and moist cake. It was pretty heavy too, weighing approx. 4 kg!

As there were many layers, I decided to layer the middle layer of cake with choc ganache and also fresh bananas.. Some of the layers also had crunchy varlhona choc pearls in between them..

The easiest part of making this cake was definitely decorating the frosting of the cupcake cake. Sprinkle them with tons of sprinkles and tadah! I literally spend the whole morn-afternoon decorating this cake alone, plus making another strawberry almond cake for another cousin. (as seen below) It was a hectic, tiring day indeed..

Managed to take a pic of the inside of the cupcake cake! YUMM!
Really really pleased with myself that I managed to carve everything out without a specific cake pan and that I finally got to do a giant cupcake cake!(:

On a side note, wishing the readers of Batter Burps a Happy Chinese New Year, and to those who ordered our pineapple tarts, hope that you all liked them!

Batter Burps baked a total of approx. 50 tubs of pineapple tarts this year, all thanks to you guys and we hope to hear from you all soon again(:
